Knowledge as a competitive advantage
At Sherwin-Williams P&M the premise is simple: an excellent product applied badly performs worse than an average product applied well. Investing in training isn't an added benefit — it is part of how the protection works.
Our training programme covers every link in the application chain: the applicator handling the product on site, the distributor advising the customer at the point of sale, and the client's own technician overseeing the job. Each one gets content matched to their role — technical, hands-on and applied.

FIRETEX®
FIRETEX® Applicator Certification
Why certification is mandatory
A PFP system's performance depends critically on the film thickness applied — a difference of millimetres in DFT can be the difference between 60 and 30 minutes of fire resistance. That is why Sherwin-Williams certifies FIRETEX® applicators through specific training before authorising them on certified projects.
What certification covers
- Surface preparation to the FIRETEX® specification
- Application of the compatible anticorrosive primer
- Intumescent coating application with wet film thickness control
- Visual inspection and DFT measurement by structural profile
- Topcoat — compatibility and application
- Documentation and records for every stage of the application
The FIRETEX® certificate is issued by Sherwin-Williams and is valid per project or for a defined period.
Distributors
Distributor Capability Programme
Our approved distributor network gets a dedicated capability programme — because the distributor is the customer's first technical contact at the point of sale. A well-trained distributor specifies the right product, guides correct application and cuts the odds of field failure.
The programme covers:
- Technical knowledge of the P&M portfolio by market segment
- Product selection criteria by environment and application
- Sales materials — data sheets, comparison tables, catalogues
- Access to remote technical support from the P&M team
